Cholera outbreak has left hundreds of local residents infected in Chaman town of Balochistan on Saturday.
The situation is dire, as public hospitals and primary health centers faced a severe shortage of medicines to tackle the mass emergency. The lack of space at civil hospital has forced medical staff to treat patients outside the hospital.
Talking to The Express Tribune District Health Officer Chaman, Dr. Ismat Achakzai said that an emergency has been declared across all private and government hospitals in the district to deal with the situation.
He urged the public to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
Despite the critical situation, the Chaman health department's request for additional medicines from Quetta has yet to be fulfilled. Local authorities have appealed for immediate medical assistance to address the growing number of cholera cases.
Currently, no deaths have been reported, but health department officials warned that hundreds of people remain affected, with the majority seeking treatment at Civil Hospital Chaman.
The community is anxiously awaiting the arrival of necessary medical supplies to combat the outbreak.
