A speeding trailer collided with an oncoming van near the Northern Bypass Toll Plaza in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area, resulting in a devastating accident. The trailer driver lost control and crashed into the van, carrying an extended family. Three children, including two young brothers, died in the van, and 19 people, including women and children, were injured. The injured and deceased were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, with most of the injured in critical condition. Eight were later referred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for further treatment.
Police arrested the trailer driver and seized the vehicle. SHO Gulshan Mason Inspector Ghafar Korai confirmed the arrest and seizure.
The victims included eight-year-old Ghulam Hussain, four-year-old Shamshad, and one-year-old Muhammad Qaim. Among the injured were family members, including 25-year-old Zahid Hussain, 55-year-old Hanifa Taj Muhammad, and her 20-year-old son Farman Ali, as well as several others.
The victims belonged to the same family, residents of Nawabshah in Sindh, traveling to Balochistan via the Northern Bypass. The police suspect the trailer driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the accident. However, the driver claims in his initial statement that the trailer's brakes failed, leading to the collision. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
