Arshad Nadeem is our national pride, says CM Shah

Sindh govt showers praise and cash prizes on Olympic gold medalist

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah hosted Arshad Nadeem, the javelin thrower who won a gold medal for Pakistan at Paris Olympic 2024, celebrating his groundbreaking achievements.

CM Shah highlighted Pakistan's potential, suggesting the country should aim for at least 24 gold medals on the international stage. "Arshad Nadeem is our national pride," said the chief minister. "You have made history and serve as a role model for the youth of our country. Your victory demonstrates that determination can overcome any obstacle," he said while addressing Nadeem.

When Nadeem arrived at the Chief Minister's House with P&D Minister Nasir Shah, the ongoing provincial cabinet session was paused to personally welcome the national hero. The CM and his cabinet members warmly applauded Nadeem's record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters.

Recalling the historic moment, CM Shah said, "Watching your victory was unforgettable. We couldn't stop discussing your incredible performance with friends and family."

Nadeem expressed his gratitude to the chief minister for his support and encouragement, noting that the congratulatory phone call from CM Shah had motivated him to aim for even greater accomplishments.

In recognition of Nadeem's achievements, CM Shah awarded him Rs50 million along with traditional Sindhi gifts, including an ajrak, cap, khes, and other memorabilia. The P&D minister presented a car to Nadeem's mother, acknowledging her role in nurturing such a talented son. Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon pledged to provide a premium number plate for the car.

Local Government Saeed Ghani Minister announced that an important road in Karachi would be named after Nadeem to honour his contributions to the nation. Sports Minister Sardar Mohammad Bux Maher also handed Nadeem a cheque from both his department and personal funds.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab revealed plans to establish a sports academy in Nadeem's honour.

At the conclusion of the reception, CM Shah reaffirmed his support for Nadeem, saying, "Whenever you need assistance or have suggestions for promoting sports in the province, I am here to help."

Nadeem expressed his appreciation for the chief minister's ongoing support and dedication to his accomplishments. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to enhancing sports in Pakistan, inspired by Nadeem's remarkable achievements.

Meanwhile, Governor Kamran Khan Tessori addressed a press conference along with Arshad Nadeem where the Olympic gold medalist announced 100 laptops to IT students as part of the governor's initiative. Tessori lauded Nadeem for bringing immense pride to the nation and fostering unity through his feat.

Later, the Olympic gold medalist toured the "Umeed Ki Ghanti" (Bell of Hope) initiative. He expressed pleasant surprise after ringing the "Umeed Ki Ghanti," appreciating the symbolic gesture. Tessori briefed him on the objectives and mission of the initiative.

The governor, accompanied by Olympic gold medalist, visited Mazar-e-Quaid and laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum and offered prayers. Nadeem also penned their thoughts in the visitors' book.
