Bodies extracted by cutting vehicle's body on Jhang Road

A road accident claimed the lives of six members of the same family, including three children, near Mankera on Jhang Road.

According the witnesses, a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction crushed the small car of the victims while overtaking another vehicle.

The collision was so severe that the bodies had to be extracted by cutting the car's body.

Rescue officials said three children and three men of the family travelling in the car died on the spot as a result of the accident. The victims were identified as Anum, aged six; Nosheen, four; Nehaal, 16; Ghulam Nabi, 55; Nouman Khaleel, 40; and Ahmed Ali, 53. All the victims died on the spot.

Additionally, one woman was severely injured in the road accident.

The sources said the victim family was travelling from Mianwali to meet relatives in Mankera when the accident took place near their destination.

Rescue 1122 teams arrived at the scene and transported the bodies and the injured woman to the Mankera Tehsil Headquarters Hospital after removing them from the vehicles.

The collision was so severe that the car was destroyed and its passengers had to be extracted by cutting its body.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed a deep sense of grief and sorrow over the demise of the six people in the traffic accident in the Bhakkar region. She offered condolences and shared her heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, at least 17 people died, whereas 1,404 were injured in 1,249 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Of the victims, 644 people with serious injuries were shifted to hospitals, while 760 others with minor injuries were treated at the incident sites by Rescue Medical Teams. The majority of the accidents involved motorbikes.

Official data showed that 711 adult and 42 underage drivers, 169 pedestrians and 541 passengers were among the victims of the road traffic crashes. The statistics showed that 241 RTCs were reported in Lahore, which affected 293 persons, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list, followed by 86 in Faisalabad with 92 victims, and 81 in Multan with 85 victims.

The data showed that 1,111 of the victims were male and 310 female, while 247 of them were under 18 years of age, 795 between 18 and 40 years, and 379 above 40 years.

Earlier, on July 4, a collision between a passenger van and a truck on Jhang Road near Mankera had resulted in the death of five people and injuries to eight others. The accident occurred as the van traveling from Piplan to Mankera for a funeral was hit by the truck. Among the deceased were Faqeer Hussain, 55, Zareena Bibi, 18, Razia Bibi, 70, and Muhammad Rafique, 51, all residents of Piplan.

The driver of the truck, Adnan Shafiq, 35, from Lukky Marwat, also died in the road crash. Rescue teams transported the injured to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital. Mankera Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Asi stated that the accident had bene caused because of the van driver falling asleep at the wheel.
