DIJKOT:

A former union council chairman has been found dead six days after being abducted for ransom.

The kidnappers had demanded over Rs10 million in ransom to release him, but they murdered him and threw away his body.

The police detained three employees of the deceased and began interrogating them over suspicion of their involvement in the case. Local police officials also took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital.

Rai Gul Abbas, a former chairman of Union Council 239 and resident of Chak 239RB, had left his home on his vehicle on August 5 but had been kidnapped.

The kidnappers had demanded ransom from the hostage's family for his release and a deal had reportedly been finalised for Rs10 million.

The abductors had also threatened to murder the victim if the police were informed about the matter.

The sources said negotiations had been continuing between the family members and the abductors, and Gul Abbas had asked his family to sell his 17 Murabba of land to secure his release.

However, the kidnappers had later cut off contact with the family.

On the compliant of a nephew of the deceased, Toqeer Abbas, the Saddar police had registered a case against unidentified kidnappers under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

After the kidnapping, police officers had formed teams to look into the case along with Saddar SHO Rai Aftab Waseem.

On the basis of suspicion, the police detained three employees of Rai Abbas named Sajawal, Ali and Gulraiz for interrogation.

Police officials said the body had been traced during the investigation and retrieved from fields on Saturday.

After shifting the body to a hospital, the Saddar police registered a case under Section 302 against the suspects.

The police officials said a local influential person had been mediating between the kidnappers and the hostage's family for his release.

The deceased Rai Gul Abbas is a cousin of former MPA Ahsan Kharal.

In another incident, a man killed his younger brother with a sharp edged weapon over a property dispute in Ghulam Muhammadabad.

The suspect was caught while trying to dispose of the body in a sack, when local children raised the alarm.

The police arrested the suspect along with the murder weapon and transferred the body to a hospital.
