Joaquin Phoenix's sudden departure from Todd Haynes' untitled gay romance film, just days before shooting, has left the project in turmoil as per report by The Hollywood Reporter. Phoenix, who initially brought the idea to Haynes and co-developed the screenplay, reportedly experienced "cold feet," causing the film to be scrapped entirely.
The movie, set in the 1930s, was to depict an intense gay love story and also star Danny Ramirez. The unexpected exit has left the production team "devastated," with millions already invested in the project.
Haynes, known for critically acclaimed films like "Carol" and "Far From Heaven," most recently directed the Oscar-nominated "May December." Meanwhile, Phoenix is gearing up for the release of "Joker: Folie à Deux" alongside Lady Gaga.
