HYDERABAD:

A traditional wrester was allegedly shot dead in a fake encounter by Shaheed Benazirabad police on Thursday while his brother has been detained and kept at some undisclosed location. The family of slain 25-year-old Ali Gul Solangi staged a protest in Moro, Naushehro Feroze district, along with the dead body for several hours, demanding registration of FIR and arrest of the cops involved in the killings.

Lal Bux Solangi, father of victims, told the media that his slain was a traditional wrestler who was in no way involved in crimes. His two sons were stopped at Shahpur Jahania police station's check post where both of them were detained before the staged encounter in which Ali Gul was killed. He blamed the check post's in charge ASI Khadim Hussain Rahu, constable Nazir Ahmed Dahiri and two other cops for the killing. SSP Tanveer Tunio took notice of the incident and formed an inquiry committee headed by a DSP.

Meanwhile, DSO Moro Sardar Khan Chandio and SHO Moro police station Ali Akbar Khokhar assured the grief-stricken family that the police will register their FIR after which the protesters dispersed after blocking traffic on the highway for several hours. Body of the victim was shifted to Shahpur Jahania hospital for postmortem. A Medico Legal Officer informed that a bullet pierced through his chest.

The wrestler belonged to a village near Moro taluka of Naushehro Feroze. The area borders Shaheed Benazirabad district. The family complained that the accused policemen are moving freely.

Separately, in a petition filed by a man who claimed that he was injured in a spurious encounter by Hyderabad police, Sindh High Court has put Home Secretary, IGP Sindh, DIG and SSP Hyderabad and other police officers on notice. The petitioner Asif Ali's counsel advocate Javed Buriro informed the court that Ali was returning with his family from Bhit Shah, Matiari district, to Karachi when they were stopped by Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Hyderabad.
