Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the millions who witnessed Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem clinch gold in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics.
The event, which captured global attention, saw Nadeem making history with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 metres, securing Pakistan's first Olympic gold in 40 years.
India's Neeraj Chopra earned a silver medal, while Anderson Peters of Grenada took bronze.
According to Indian media reports, following Chopra's silver medal win, Prime Minister Modi personally called him at around 1am to offer congratulations.
“Many congratulations, Neeraj. You have once again made the nation proud. Millions were watching you with hope even at 1am,” PM Modi reportedly told Chopra during the call.
The previous day’s historic moment saw Arshad Nadeem not only claiming gold but also setting a new Olympic record, a feat that has been celebrated worldwide.
