NA approves resolution to honour Arshad Nadeem with civil award

Assembly commended Nadeem for his dedication, resilience, emphasized that lack of resources did'nt deter his path.

The National Assembly (NA) has unanimously approved a resolution on Friday to award a civil honour to Arshad Nadeem, the javelin thrower who made history by winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics last night.

The resolution, presented during the NA session, praised Nadeem's remarkable achievement in the javelin throw event, where he set an Olympic record with a throw of 92.97m, securing Pakistan's first Olympic gold in 40 years.

The assembly commended Nadeem for his dedication and resilience, emphasising that a lack of resources did not deter his path to success.

The resolution further recommended that the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari bestow a civil award upon Nadeem in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishment.

The resolution passed with unanimous support, reflecting the nation's pride in Nadeem's historic victory at the Paris Olympics.

Deputy Chairman Syedaal Khan Nasar announced that the Senate will arrange a dinner in honour of Arshad Nadeem to celebrate his achievement, which has made the entire nation proud.

He also mentioned that the outstanding athlete will be awarded with prizes as a token of appreciation.

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, while paying tribute to Nadeem's remarkable accomplishment, emphasized that the government is committed to providing all necessary support to promote sports in the country. He urged the youth of Pakistan to draw inspiration from Nadeem’s historic victory.

The Olympic gold winner was also congratulated in the National Assembly session on Friday with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari commending the athlete over his achievement.

Lauding Arshad Nadeem’s triumph, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari noted hat the entire nation takes great pride in his accomplishment.
