His main challenger and defending champion, India's Neeraj Chopra, managed to secure a silver medal at second place with a throw of 89.34metres.
The last time Pakistan stood on the Olympic podium was in 1992 when the national hockey team claimed a bronze medal in Barcelona.
The feat also marks the first individual gold medal won for Pakistan in its history. The golg medal for Pakistan comes after a gap of four decades.
The achievement has received widespread recognition from across the country.
