BTS’ Suga faces drunk driving charges after riding electric scooter under the influence
Suga, a member of BTS, has been booked for operating an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.
The incident occurred on August 6 in Seoul's Hannam-dong area. The Yongsan Police Station reported that Suga, who fell off the scooter, had a blood alcohol content high enough to warrant a license revocation. Consequently, he was fined, and his license was revoked.
Despite the charges, Suga's current social service period will not be extended, as the incident happened outside his official working hours.
A representative from the Military Manpower Administration clarified to Ilgan Sports, "Disciplinary actions are only taken for work-related infractions during official service hours. Incidents outside of work are subject to general criminal law."
The regulations for social service agents specify that misconduct during service hours, including alcohol consumption, can result in an extension of service. However, Suga’s actions occurred outside these hours.
Big Hit Music, Suga’s agency, stated, "Suga was on his way home after consuming alcohol, riding an electric scooter with a helmet. After about 500 meters, he fell while parking the scooter.
The police conducted a breathalyzer test, resulting in a fine and license revocation. There were no injuries or property damage, and he returned home under police supervision."
Suga also addressed the situation on Weverse, saying, "After drinking at dinner, I mistakenly rode an electric scooter home. I didn't realise it was against the law to operate one while intoxicated."
He added, "I fell while parking the scooter, and the police tested me. I take full responsibility and apologise to everyone."
