Ryan Reynolds advocates for Channing Tatum to get Gambit solo movie

With Deadpool & Wolverine having been in theaters for 10 days, Ryan Reynolds is taking the time to thank the A-list celebrities who made cameo appearances in the popular Marvel film, including Channing Tatum.

Tatum, 44, had a significant role in the film as Gambit/Remy LeBeau, a character from the X-Men universe whom he had been working to bring to the big screen for over ten years.

Thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine, that dream has finally been realized.

On Instagram Monday, Aug. 5, Reynolds, 47, praised, “Gambit is a guy Chan was born to play,” alongside a collection of photos showing Tatum in action on Deadpool & Wolverine.

“His story is similar to my road on Deadpool — in that Chan spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen.”

“Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal,” Reynolds continued, “Some characters can only exist with a one in a billion pairing and this is it.”

“Gambit found his author in Chan. He’s one of the coolest, smartest characters in Comics and still largely unexplored.”

“I want more — and from what I saw in theaters, you do too,” before commending Tatum's dedication and work ethic.

Ultimately, Reynolds expressed that he “couldn’t be more thrilled” to see Tatum finally bring the card-throwing hero to life.

Tatum had been associated with the role of Gambit since at least 2006, when he was considered for the part of the beloved '90s character in X-Men: The Last Stand.

The character was eventually removed from the film, and Taylor Kitsch was cast as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), which marked Reynolds' first portrayal of Deadpool.
