Govt pays Rs500k to robbed tourist

Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal met a German tourist, Florian Berg, and paid him Rs500,000 to compensate the loss suffered by him in a robbery.

The German cyclist had been robbed while sleeping on the roadside in Lahore recently. The chief minister of Punjab had ordered the police to arrest the robbers.

The home secretary told the foreign visitor, “All the tourists coming to Pakistan are our guests and we are taking measures for their security and safety.”

The official said the police were tracing the robbers with the help of technology.The tourist said, "I can never forget the manner in which the Punjab government and people supported me."

He said tourists could face criminals in any country, "Pakistan is my favourite country and I would like to come here again."

Florian Berg said that along with the landscape beauty of Pakistan, the beauty of the hearts of the people here is also exemplary.
