More than a dozen men dressed in police uniforms looted four houses in the Nishatabad area.

The villagers chased the robbers but they managed to escape. According to local residents, the Nishatabad police reached the scene of the incident late despite calls for help. The villagers also reportedly protested against the police inaction.

The area police registered a case of robbery in one house.

The villagers said 14 bandits barged into the home of Zafar Iqbal, a resident of Malanpur, took the family hostage, tied them at gunpoint and manhandled them.

The robbers looted 3.5 tola of gold jewellery worth R.950,000 and Rs450,000 in cash. They also took away identity cards and other documents of the victims.

The robbers, dressed in police uniforms, also ransacked the houses of Zafar's two brothers and a sister for hours and managed to escape.

They were chased by the villagers who also informed the police, but the Nishatabad police arrived late, sparking protest by local residents.

The area SHO, Shahid Awan, assured villagers of action against the robbers and later registered an FIR of robbery in one house, while keeping pending the complaints regarding the three other homes.

Nishatabad DSP Rana Umar Daraz Khan said the case had been registered and the robbers would be arrested soon.
