RAWALPINDI:

Due to the ongoing protest sit-in staged by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) at Liaquat Bagh Chowk, the Metro Bus Authority has kept three main metro stations—Murir Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, and Waris Khan— closed for the past nine days, causing severe difficulties and inconvenience for passengers.

Passengers at Murir Chowk have to board at the Saddar Stop, causing significant issues for female students. Passengers at Liaquat Bagh Chowk have to get off at Committee Chowk or Saddar, while passengers at Waris Khan bus stop are dropped off at Chandni Chowk bus stop, leading to severe problems for travellers on these routes.

This situation has also led to a decrease in the number of passengers on the metro bus, causing financial losses for the Metro Bus Authority.

According to the authority's spokesperson, the stations and stops have been closed out of necessity due to the sit-in. They will remain closed as long as the protest continues.

Passengers argue that since other transportation is passing normally alongside the sit-in, the closure of metro stops is unjustifiable. They suggest that one side of these stops be closed and the other side be opened with strict security measures.
