KARACHI:

Another man died while resisting a robbery attempt on Friday, taking the number of such killings so far this year to 84.

The victim, identified as 55-year-old Abid Hussain, was shot dead, while 40-year-old Yousuf was seriously injured when armed muggers opened fire during a robbery at a gas cylinder shop in Orangi Town, Sector 13. The injured was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

CCTV footage from the crime scene shows two armed muggers on a motorcycle trying to enter the shop. When the shopkeeper and others inside resisted, they fired gunshots and fled.

In a separate incident, a man was killed by stray bullets fired by armed robbers in New Karachi. Two robbers on a motorcycle snatched Rs200,000 from a man outside Gulzar Mosque in Ali Muhammad Goth, said SP New Karachi Faisal Noor while sharing details of the incidents with the media.

When the victim resisted, the robbers opened fire to escape. One of the bullets struck 30-year-old Nazir Ahmed in the neck as he stood on the mosque's roof. Ahmed died while being transported to a hospital.

Ahmed, a donkey-cart driver, had been married just two months ago. His body has been handed over to his family after medico-legal formalities. Police are working to gather CCTV footage from the area and surrounding locations to get to the culprits. Both suspects were wearing shalwar kameez and appeared to be between 20 to 25 years old.
