Youth of Kahna spurs community plantation campaign

Some residents of Kahna, a suburb of Lahore, have started a tree-planting campaign after a local boy, Malik Abdul Sattar, launched the initiative.

He said planting trees is rewarding work as environmental pollution will be eliminated through such campaigns.

According to local residents, he strived to made the people of Kahna aware of the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance by visiting every house and on social media.

“As long as people benefit from the tree's shade, fruit or in some other way, the planter will continue to receive rewards. If trees are not planted in Pakistan today, we may face many serious problems in the coming years. Trees clean the air and provide oxygen, so their absence will increase pollution,” the young activist said.

He said philanthropists should actively participate and every Pakistani should plant a tree dedicated to each member of their family, he said.

Community members said there was a target of planting 15,000 saplings in different areas of Kahna by the end of September.

So far, around 5,000 saplings have been planted in colleges, schools, graveyards, green belts and houses.

An aim of the tree planting campaign is to create awareness in this regard.
