Launching one of the biggest medicines warehouse projects of the country, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday inaugurated the provision of free medicines to various districts from the health department's Central Warehouse at Maraka.

The CM directed the authorities concerned to functionalise the medicine warehouses in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan at the earliest.

Nine warehouses have begun functioning for the provision of medicines across the province with a capacity to store more than 17 billion medicines and equipment.

CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif drove the fork lifter and formally launched the project and oversaw the departure of trucks loaded with medicines for various districts. She also inspected the furniture, medical equipment and other goods to be provided to the hospitals.

She checked the validity of the medicines stored in the warehouse and the standard temperature system.

Provincial Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan apprised the CM during a briefing that latest medicines and equipment worth over Rs7 billion would be provided from the warehouse for revamping hospitals, along with furniture, disposable bedsheets and other goods. Standard furniture, latest medical equipment, medicine trollies and other goods will be provided to the various district hospitals from the warehouses.

Meanwhile, German Ambassador Alfred Grannas called on Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and appreciated the efforts of the government in creating a favourable environment for foreign investment in the province.

The ambassador agreed to continue mutual cooperation for achieving sustainable development goals and promoting innovation and technological progress.

The CM reviewed possibilities of cooperation in various sectors like health, education, renewable energy, vocational training and information technology.

CM Maryam Nawaz appreciated Germany's ongoing cooperation and investment in the development sectors of Punjab, and assured German investors and businessmen of full support in providing help and facilities they needed.
