Karachi's weather turns pleasant with sudden heavy rain
Following an extremely hot and humid day, Karachi experienced a much-needed downpour on Friday afternoon, ranging from light to heavy in different areas.
Despite the rain, humidity levels remained high, slightly reducing the intense heat.
The highest rainfall was recorded at University Road with 14.8 mm, while the lowest was at Ibrahim Hyderi with 1 mm.
The Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms on Saturday and light rain or drizzle on Sunday.
Karachi's maximum temperature reached 38.5°C with a humidity level of 79%, making the heat index feel like 47°C.
Despite the resumption of southwesterly coastal winds and the cessation of northeastern winds from Balochistan, the city remained hot and humid during the day.
Increased humidity made temperatures feel higher than they actually were.
In the afternoon, thunderstorm cells formed in the outskirts, initially affecting Gadap Town and later areas such as Bahria Town, Gulistan-e-Johar, Motorway M-9, Scheme 33, Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, Hasan Square, Essa Nagri, PIB Colony, and Bahadurabad.
Rainfall varied from light to heavy across these regions.
Before the rain, some areas like Gulshan-e-Maymar and Surjani Town experienced dark clouds and cold, dusty winds.
According to the Meteorological Department's statistics, other rainfall measurements included 13.6 mm in Gadap Town, 7 mm at Hasan Square, 6.2 mm at Jinnah Terminal, 6 mm at Shara-e-Faisal, 3.2 mm at Malir Halt, 2.4 mm at Surjani Town, and 1.8 mm at Old Airport.
Chief Meteorologist Karachi, Sardar Sarfaraz, mentioned that wind speeds from the sea are expected to increase from July 22, which should improve the city's weather conditions.
The department also predicts intermittent thunderstorms and rain in various districts, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, and Sanghar.
