DAMASCUS:

Three Syrian children were killed on Tuesday in an Israeli strike on the village of Umm al-Tut in southern Lebanon near the border with Israel, Lebanese state news agency NNA said.

Earlier on Tuesday, NNA reported that two Syrians were killed in an Israeli strike which hit a bicycle crossing the Kfar Tebnit-Khardali road in southern Lebanon, making a total of five Syrians killed in one day.

Reuters is seeking comment from Israel on the incidents.

Israel has carried out near-daily airstrikes in Syria and Lebanon since Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on southern Israeli border communities and its ensuing military offensive in Gaza.

Other Iran-aligned groups including Lebanese Hezbollah and Shi'ite militias in Syria and Iraq have been firing on Israel since shortly after Oct. 7 in what they have dubbed a "support front" to draw away Israeli fire from Gaza.
