'The Daily Show' cancels RNC coverage, prompting other Late-Night programs to reconsider plans

Jon Stewart's team cites "logistical issues" and safety concerns, opting to broadcast from New York instead.

Jon Stewart and the team from “The Daily Show” have canceled their planned coverage of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

Initially set to provide satirical commentary from the host city, the Comedy Central mainstay announced on Sunday that it would instead remain at its New York City base. 

Monday’s broadcast, typically hosted by Stewart, has been canceled, with the show resuming its usual schedule from Tuesday through Thursday.

The decision follows Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. 

A message posted on Instagram and X cited “logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee” as reasons for the change, offering “apologies for the inconvenience.” 

A spokeswoman for the show did not provide further details. 

The original plan included a series of tapings from Milwaukee’s Marcus Performing Arts Center, with a live broadcast on the convention’s final night. 

Tickets for the show’s four planned RNC tapings were sold out, according to 1iota, a web-based ticketing service.

This move by “The Daily Show” may influence other late-night programs to adjust their coverage tone this week. CBS’ “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” plans to broadcast live from New York on Thursday, while Fox News Channel's satirical roundtable program “Gutfeld” had also planned a week of live broadcasts from Milwaukee during the RNC. 

Additionally, “The Late Show” and “The Daily Show” have plans to cover the Democratic National Convention from Chicago later in the summer.
