The release of Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 has been delayed to allow the first installment more time to find its audience, both in theaters and at home.

The release of Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2 has been postponed following the underwhelming box office performance of Chapter 1. The filmmakers aim to give the first installment more time to reach its target audience, particularly those over 50 who are slower to return to theaters. Chapter 1 will be available on digital platforms on July 16th and will continue its theatrical run.

While there are currently no plans to release the sequel directly to Max, a day-and-date theatrical release is being considered. The decision to delay Chapter 2 is not a reflection of its theatrical prospects but rather a strategic move to leverage the popularity of Costner's Yellowstone audience, who are primarily at home and expected to discover Chapter 1 before seeking out the sequel.

The Horizon franchise, which reportedly includes a Chapter 3, is a significant investment, with a reported budget exceeding $100 million. Despite the delay, both New Line and Territory Pictures remain optimistic about the franchise's potential, citing positive audience response and enthusiasm for Chapter 2. They believe that extending the window for Chapter 1 will only enhance the experience of seeing the sequel.

This delay leaves the August 16th release date open for other wide releases, including Disney/20th Century Studios' Alien: Romulus, Roadside Attractions' My Penguin Friend, and Falling Forward Films' Ryan's World The Movie: Titan Universe Advent.
