ICC Champions Trophy 2025: PCB '95%' hopeful of India's participation

Officials say no alternative plans have been formulated for the event as of now

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials said there is 95% hope that the Indian cricket team will participate in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, adding that as of now, no alternative plans have been formulated for the event.

They clarified that there is no consideration for a neutral venue option and stated that the tournament will 'unequivocally' be held in the country. Pakistan had been granted the hosting rights for the tournament several years ago, but concerns have emerged regarding India's participation.

According to reports, India has shown reluctance, similar to previous tournaments, about sending its cricket team across the border. Recent days have seen negative reports in the Indian media suggesting that the team might choose not to travel to Pakistan.

During a meeting of the PCB governing body in Lahore, the board extensively deliberated on the Champions Trophy. Despite the uncertainties, the officials estimated a 95% likelihood of the Indian cricket team participating in the prestigious tournament.

However, they underscored that the final decision rests not with the cricket boards but with their respective governments.
PCB officials reiterated their commitment to hosting the event in Pakistan, expressing hope for a successful tournament.

The proposed schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy places Pakistan in Group A alongside India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, while Group B features England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is awaiting consultations with the Indian government before confirming their team's participation in matches hosted in Pakistan.

According to the approved schedule, the Champions Trophy will commence on February 19 with Pakistan facing New Zealand at the National Stadium Karachi.

Subsequent matches include Pakistan versus Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on February 24, leading up to the highly anticipated Pakistan-India clash scheduled for March 1 in Lahore.

Semi-finals are scheduled for March 5 in Karachi and March 6 in Rawalpindi, with the grand final set to take place on March 9 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
