Sophia Bush reflects on “unexpected” love journey with Ashlyn Harris

Sophia Bush is celebrating her 42nd birthday with a sense of tranquility.

On July 8, the One Tree Hill star received a touching tribute from her girlfriend, Ashlyn Harris, who expressed her deep admiration for Sophia and highlighted what she values most about her.

"You are such a gift in this world," Ashlyn wrote on Instagram, alongside a carousel of photos of the two. "To see you shine and happy fills us all up. I love your heart Soph… I love everything about you. Happy born day baby."

This birthday held particular significance for Sophia. In a comment, she reflected that it symbolized the year she discovered love with Ashlyn and further discovered aspects of herself.

"Last year I got free," the Chicago P.D. star wrote. "This year I found the very best love in the very most unexpected place."

"I may never get over the gift of it," she continued. "Thank you for putting me back together. For making my second birthday even better than my first. And for reminding me what the sound of my unbridled laughter sounds like. You are magic. You are my best present."

The couple, who have recently dismissed engagement speculation, have been constantly together since they began dating last year. This came shortly after Sophia initiated divorce proceedings with Grant Hughes, and Ashlyn started the process of ending her marriage to Ali Krieger.

As Sophia has explained before, her connection with the soccer star and her journey towards understanding her own sexuality have brought her a profound inner peace.
