Scarlett Johansson gives update on Amazon's 'Just Cause' limited series

'Just Cause' marks Scarlett Johansson's first major venture into television.

Scarlett Johansson, in an interview at the New York City premiere of her new movie 'Fly Me To The Moon', provided an update on Amazon's upcoming thriller limited series, 'Just Cause'. She confirmed that the project is actively being written and is progressing well after a brief pause due to the writers' strike.

'Just Cause' marks Johansson's first major venture into television. The project, secured by Amazon in 2022 with a straight-to-series order, is based on John Katzenbach's 1992 novel. In a twist from the original story, the male protagonist, Miami newspaper editorial writer Matt Cowart, has been reimagined as Madison "Madi" Cowart, a struggling Florida newspaper reporter portrayed by Johansson.

Interestingly, Johansson has a personal connection to the story, having played the daughter of the main character in the 1995 film adaptation of Katzenbach's book at the age of 10. This marks one of her earliest film roles.

The series is being written by Cord Jefferson, the filmmaker behind 'American Fiction', and writer John Wells. Both are also serving as executive producers alongside Johansson and John Wells Productions. Christy Hall, known for 'I'm Not OK With This' and 'Daddio', is also attached to the project.

In addition to 'Just Cause', Johansson, a two-time Oscar nominee and Tony winner, also addressed questions about her potential appearance on the upcoming 50th season of Saturday Night Live. Having been a semi-regular fixture on the show, she revealed that she has not yet been approached but encouraged fans to "ask Lorne" (referring to Lorne Michaels, the creator and producer of SNL).
