The WBC has banned boxing star Ryan Garcia from participating in any of their activities due to his repeated use of racial slurs against Black people and negative comments about Muslims during a livestream on social media.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman revealed the sanction on Thursday via the social media platform X.

Sulaiman stated, "We reject any form of discrimination."

"I fear for Ryan's well being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse."

What are the consequences Ryan Garcia will face for using racial slurs by the World Boxing Council?

The specific actions the WBC would take against Garcia were not immediately evident. Garcia is currently under a one-year suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission due to testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine. This suspension dates back to Garcia's April 20 win against Devin Haney, which was later changed to a no-contest.

Garcia issued a somewhat apologetic statement on X.

What was Ryan Garcia’s response to being expelled by the World Boxing Council?

"I was trolling I want all the killing to stop," Garcia shared. "I love everyone sorry if I offended you."

It's been a challenging year for Garcia, aged 25, who was recently arrested on felony vandalism charges following allegations from a Beverly Hills hotel, claiming he caused around $15,000 in damage.

Following the WBC's announcement of the penalty, Garcia's family released a statement addressing his recent troubling actions and social media comments, emphasizing that these "do not align with his, or our family's, true character or beliefs."

"Our family unequivocally does not support any statements [Garcia] has made regarding race or religion -- these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised," the family's statement read. "Those who know Ryan can attest to this fact. Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health over the years and as a family we are committed to ensuring and encouraging that he receives the necessary help to navigate this very challenging time and address both his immediate and long-term well-being."
