KARACHI:

The Sindh Excise Department has announced a new initiative to deliver vehicle number plates directly to residents’ homes.

During a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, it was also decided to establish dedicated offices for the issuance of premium number plates.

Additionally, a motor registration office will be set up in Karachi’s district south, which will also operate during evening hours to accommodate the public’s needs.

Sharjeel Memon, who holds a number of portfolios in the Sindh government including transport and mass transit, excise, taxation, narcotics and control department, highlighted the success of the first phase of the premium number plate issuance, noting the positive response from the public.

Following this, he also announced the second phase of the premium number plate auction to commence soon. “To further facilitate the public, steps will be taken to simplify the registration process”, the minister said.

He added, “Our primary duty and responsibility is to provide maximum facilities to the public. We aim to run the excise department in a corporate manner, ensuring efficiency and convenience for all”.

The department last week auctioned off the premium number plate (A1) for Rs100 million. Muzammil Kareem Paracha placed the highest bid of Rs100 million for the number plate.

Another premium number plate 786 had fetched Rs26.5 million in the auction, with Sarosh, a businessman, placing the highest bid.
