K-Electric asked to crack down on power theft to tackle power crisis

Amid frequent and prolonged outages in the sweltering heat, Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani have stressed the need for K-Electric to tackle the power crisis in the metropolitan city by cracking down on power theft and absorbing financial losses for public welfare. They expressed these sentiments during a media briefing following a ceremony at Syed Nasir Hussain Shah's office on Wednesday. K-Electric CEO Monis Alvi acknowledged the challenges and efforts to minimise load-shedding in the megalopolis.

Despite efforts to end night-time outages from 10pm to 6am, interruptions in wind power supply and infrastructure damage in Jamshoro had caused power shortages, he said. However, he assured that K-Electric had started generating electricity through costly diesel, aiming to reduce daytime load-shedding soon. Alvi claimed that currently, 1,700 out of 2,100 feeders in Karachi experience zero load-shedding, while 400 feeders face 6 to 10 hours of outages due to high losses.
