The children were playing near the pond when they slipped and fell into the water, the Deputy Commissioner Awaran Ayesha Zehri told The Express Tribune.

The victims, identified as Salman, 12, Hassan, 7, Ismat, 10, Horan 9, and Rehmat, were taken out of the pond by local residents and their bodies were shifted to a local hospital where all of them were pronounced dead on arrival.

The pond was filled with water after recent rains, making it hazardous for the unsuspecting children. “This is indeed a very tragic incident,” Ayesha Zehri said.
