Provincial Minister for Minerals Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has inaugurated the world's largest free morgue in Karachi. The JDC Free Morgue, located near the flyover at Sohrab Goth, can accommodate up to 1,000 bodies.

At the inauguration ceremony, Shah praised the efforts of JDC and its Secretary General Zafar Abbas. "The dedication of JDC and Zafar Abbas to the entire country, especially Sindh and Karachi, is commendable," Shah said. He added that the Sindh government has cooperated with Abbas in the past and will continue to support him.

The new facility will also include Rescue 1122 services and plans to switch to solar power soon.

Zafar Abbas expressed gratitude to the Sindh government for providing the land and to the Jaffer Family Foundation United Global International for funding the project. He explained that the morgue, completed in 2023, features individual boxes for each body, with a light system for viewing.

The morgue also includes separate bathing rooms for men and women, a waiting area with Holy Quran copies for recitation, and a free funeral bus service for city burials.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including DG KDA Shujaat Hussain, Sindh head of 1122 Brigadier Tariq Qadir, and others.
