Eminem's latest track, "Tobey," featuring fellow Michigan rappers Big Sean and BabyTron, dropped on July 2nd. The song is the second single from his forthcoming album, "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)."
The song opens with a reference to Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire: "Tobey Maguire got bit by a spider, but see, me, it was a goat." This line, repeated by all three artists, suggests that Eminem, often dubbed the GOAT (Greatest of All Time), has influenced them like the radioactive spider influenced Peter Parker.
Fans have enthusiastically received the track and its accompanying visuals, a playful take on the iconic Spider-Man meme. The music video for "Tobey" is scheduled to premiere on July 5th, leading up to the album's release on July 12th.
This isn't Eminem's first foray into the Spiderverse. He previously contributed the track "Venom" to the 2018 movie of the same name, which also appeared on his album "Kamikaze."
The Detroit native teased his new album with a faux obituary for his Slim Shady alter ego in the Detroit Free Press, further building anticipation for the album's release.
Earlier this week, Eminem released the music video for "Houdini," the first single off the new album, featuring cameos from Pete Davidson, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, comedian Shane Gillis, and all three of his children.
