Richard Gere has been cast in Showtime's upcoming political thriller "The Agency," as reported by The Hollywood Reporter marking his first major TV series role. The 74-year-old actor, known for his performances in "Chicago" and "Pretty Woman," will play Bosko, a London Station Chief with a storied past as an eight-year undercover agent. Gere joins previously announced stars Michael Fassbender and Jeffrey Wright in the U.S. remake of the French political drama "The Bureau."

Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, praised Gere's casting, stating, "Richard Gere is in a class of his own, adored by generations of fans worldwide for his exceptional ability to infuse depth and authenticity into every role he plays."

"The Agency" is a reimagining of the critically acclaimed French series "Le Bureau." The new political thriller follows Martian (played by Fassbender), a covert CIA agent who is ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. The plot intensifies when Martian's past love reappears, reigniting romance and pitting his career, real identity, and mission against his heart, leading to a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.

The original French series focused on the daily lives and missions of agents within France’s principal external security service, particularly the "Bureau of Legends," responsible for training and managing deep-cover agents on long-term missions in areas of French interest.

Gere, a longtime activist and actor, has other upcoming projects, including "Oh, Canada," directed by Paul Schrader and co-starring Jacob Elordi and Uma Thurman. He will also appear alongside Diane Keaton and Blake Lively in "The Making Of."

"The Agency" is currently in production in London, commissioned by Showtime Studios and produced in association with 101 Studios. George Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce through Smokehouse Pictures.
