In the first episode of July 2024 of "LIVE With Kelly & Mark," viewers noticed a significant change in co-host Mark Consuelos' appearance as he debuted a much shorter haircut. The 53-year-old actor and television personality humorously acknowledged the change, stating, "Do not adjust your TV screens—yes, I got my haircut," as transcribed by People. He added that such a drastic change only happens "every couple of years," comparing his new look to a chinchilla.
Kelly Ripa, his wife and co-host, didn't hold back her thoughts on the new style. During the show, she rubbed Consuelos' head and remarked, "I’ve never rubbed an actual chinchilla but I suspect this is what it feels like." She joked further, "We should give everyone in the audience an opportunity. Look at how I take it all for granted, don’t I? I take it all for granted!"
Despite her initial reaction, Ripa explained that she supports the haircut because Consuelos "didn't have a choice" and "had to do it" for a new TV role. Consuelos elaborated, "Yeah, I got a TV job," referring to an upcoming acting credit. He revealed that the role required a military-style haircut, stating, "A role in a pilot, and they said, ‘Can you cut it short?’ And I said, ‘How short? … Military?’ And they said, ‘Military.’"
While the couple remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the new production, they mentioned that the series is filming in Atlanta and Consuelos is not playing a military character.
The July 1 episode marked the public debut of Consuelos' new haircut, although the couple had already shared glimpses of it on social media. On June 29, they posted a photo on Instagram with Ripa captioning it, "We are Switzerland baby." Consuelos also shared a series of photos from their trip to Geneva, captioning them, "Swiss life🇨🇭merci beaucoup Geneva!"
The response from fans has been mixed, with some criticizing the haircut as "terrible" while others praised it as looking "great."
