Police warned against flouting PHC order

CCPO assures court of looking into missing person’s case

Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim on Monday expressed anger at a police officer for not appearing in the court despite being summoned and warned that such behaviour of the police officer would not be tolerated.

During the hearing of the case of a missing person, Misbahul Haq, the chief justice summoned the capital city police officer (CCPO) of Peshawar, who assured the court that he would personally look into the matter and submit a report by July 22.

The petitioner, Ehsanullah, the father of Haq, has moved the PHC for the recovery of his son. He had stated that Haq was called for work from Kohat in 2019, adding that he was working with two Matni residents, Habibullah and Hasan, but had been missing since then.

At the outset of the hearing, the chief justice told the additional advocate general that on April 14 the station house office (SHO) of the Matni police station was summoned by the court in this case. He asked whether the SHO was present. The chief justice was informed that the SHO had not come to the court.

On that the chief justice instructed him to call the Peshawar CCPO. Additional Advocate General Inam Yousafzai, later informed the court that the CCPO Peshawar Muhammad Qasim had been going to Khyber to offer Fatiha on the death of some policemen but he had come to the court.

Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim remarked that the CCPO was a busy officer but the court did not summon him without reason. He added that if the SHO could ignore the PHC order then he would throw the orders of the session court in the dustbin, adding that such behaviour could not be tolerated.
