The popular fantasy action RPG Elden Ring could be headed for a film or television adaptation, according to George R.R. Martin. The “Game of Thrones” author, who contributed to the worldbuilding of the acclaimed game, hinted at the possibility in a recent blog post. Martin wrote, “Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING… I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?” This coy acknowledgment has fueled speculation among fans.

Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, has garnered widespread acclaim since its release in February 2022. The game is noted for its challenging gameplay and rich lore, elements that Martin was instrumental in creating. Martin's involvement included writing the overarching mythos for the game's world, the Lands Between, which provided a deep, dark foundation for the game's story and characters.

At the 2023 Nebula Awards, Elden Ring won for game writing, further highlighting its narrative strength. Martin noted his satisfaction with the project, stating that he did the worldbuilding while Miyazaki and his team handled the rest. This collaborative effort resulted in a game that has been celebrated for its complexity and immersive experience.

The recent release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has also renewed interest in the game. This expansion has been praised as the best content Elden Ring has offered, according to GamesRadar.

While Martin has not confirmed any specific plans for a film or TV adaptation, his playful comments and the game's success suggest that such a project could be well-received. Fans of the game and Martin's work are eagerly awaiting further news.
