Fairway faceoff: Biden and Trump spar over golf skills in Presidential debate
In an unexpected twist during Thursday's heated debate, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump engaged in a fiery exchange over their golf skills, a topic that sparked some of the night's feistiest moments.
Amid discussions on the economy, immigration, and foreign policy, the debate took a light-hearted turn when the subject of golf handicaps came up.
Trump, defending his physical fitness and mental sharpness, boasted about his recent golf achievements.
"I won two championships at one of my golf courses. To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way," he claimed.
He went on to taunt Biden, saying, "Biden can't hit a ball 50 yards."
In response, Biden was quick to highlight his own golfing prowess, noting his impressive handicap from his vice-presidential days.
"I got my handicap, when I was vice president, down to six," Biden stated, challenging Trump to a match where the former president would have to carry his own clubs.
"Think you can do it?" he asked.
The exchange grew more heated when Trump dismissed Biden's claims about his golf handicap as "the biggest lie of all," criticizing Biden's golf swing directly.
Attempting to steer the conversation back to more serious matters, Trump said, "Let's not act like children," to which Biden sharply retorted, "You are a child."
This back-and-forth over golf handicaps underscored the ongoing scrutiny both candidates face regarding their physical and mental fitness for the presidency.
In golf terms, a handicap represents a player's potential ability, with a lower handicap indicating a better player.
