Considering more rainfall has been forecast in flood-affected districts, while other areas have received unexpected showers, the government is set to prepare a rapid need assessment survey report with the UN and other collaborative partners to assess the magnitude of the disaster.
Chairman National Disaster Management Authority Zafar Iqbal Qadir will visit flood-stricken areas accompanied by a UN delegation to determine the extent of the destruction. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Qadir said provincial governments have been trying to minister to the needs of the people since floods were forecast in August. “There are enough resources for the time being and the capacity to deal with the disaster. We will see to what extent we want the UN to intervene [after the field visit],” said the chairman. The government has been conducting high-level consultative meetings for the past two days to assess the situation.
He said that it has not been decided whether the government will make an international appeal for assistance. Once the financial impact has been assessed, the government will decide if it can manage on its own. The government has requested local donors to help procure and pack food parcels for flood survivors.

So our country cannot help the citizens affected by a normal flood and has to seek International assistance. What a shame........
@"government to decide on foreign aid after flood assessment" I was in dubai during Oct ,10 last year when I called a very senior tv analyst and anchorperson and told his assistant who attended my phone to tell him to host a programme in which he should invite experts to discuss and formulate plans and inform those in government that due to changes in climate heavy rains and floods were sure to come in,11 monsoon season, for which ample preparations may be made before-hand.I dont know whether my message was conveyed to him or not but here we are with lot of rains and floods and helplessness.will someone like to compare the"cost of destruction" caused by floods with the "cost of pre-planning'which could have saved lives and property destroyed by these floods,?.how long shall we keep begging others for help.quoting Iqbal,with due apology"zara GHAM ho to yeh matti bohat zarkhez hai saqi"please excuse me if this was not said by Iqbal.
why dont you just ring up your all weather "higher than himalayas" friend and get some quick need based assistance to alleviate the suffering of poorest of poor ?
the Govt will always ask United nations for Aid . on their own they will never hlep & then Impose Flood tax on us which will go in the Govt Pockets . why doesnt the govt top people sell their un used banglows & area that they have blocked when they dont even live there . sell it & help the Flood victims.
with great difficulty we citizens are making ends meet & to top it off the Govt impose more & more taxes on us which goes in their own POCKETS
