KARACHI:

The Sindh government has issued instructions to all local bodies to take necessary measures to deal with the expected heavy rains.

A high-level meeting of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) was held at Civic Center Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Member Technical and Chief Engineer KDA Tariq Rafi on special instructions of Director General DG KDA Syed Shujaat Hussain.

The meeting discussed various suggestions and opinions regarding possible rains in KDA townships and schemes. On this occasion, Rafi issued instructions to the concerned authorities and said that the signboards should be displayed temporarily around open manholes in the townships and schemes to avert untoward incidents.

He further said that during expected heavy rains, the attendance of the concerned officers and staff was ensured 100% and the staff was kept active for the drainage of rainwater. Dewatering pumps and all the necessary machinery should be fully operational before the rains and should be available at concerned places so that the drainage process continues without delay during rains.

KDA is ready with ample manpower and machinery to deal with the situation that may arise due to round-the-clock rains.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad said that orders have been issued to the Solid Waste Management Board (SWMB) and KMC officials to initiate necessary measures following the rain prediction.

Following the rainfall, Murad inspected various city locations. He directed the KWSB to deploy machinery at various underpasses and roads across the city. He visited several areas including Malir, Kala Board, Model Colony, Airport, Metropole, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Nursery, and Karsaz, reviewing immediate drainage efforts.
