Royal fans have shown concern over the absence of Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, at a banquet on Wednesday evening held for Japan's Emperor Naruhito.
The event, organised by the Lord Mayor and City of London Corporation at the Guildhall, initially included both the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh on the guest list. However, only Prince Edward, 60, attended to represent the British Royal Family.
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived in the UK over the weekend and have engaged in various events hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla. This is the first Japanese state visit to the UK since 1998.

Buckingham Palace has not officially commented on the Duchess's absence. However, the Daily Express reported that her absence was due to a prior commitment, and the decision was made several weeks ago.
Prince Edward was seen sitting with Emperor Naruhito, the Lord Mayor of London Michael Mainelli, and Elisabeth Mainelli. Empress Masako was not expected at the banquet, as she was not on the guest list.
