Angel Carter, Aaron Carter’s twin sister, has opened up about her brother's battle with addiction and her long-standing fear of his eventual death. During an episode of the “Squeeze” podcast with hosts Taylor and Tay Lautner, Angel shared the emotional toll of Aaron's struggles and her attempts to support him.

Angel recounted the traumatic experience of losing their older sister Leslie to an overdose in 2012. “What’s so interesting about Leslie’s passing — she passed away when I was 23 — her death completely blindsided me,” she said. In contrast, she had long anticipated Aaron’s death. “When she died, I was already in therapy preparing for Aaron’s death. I thought he was going to die. I feared it my entire 20s. I knew this day was going to come and I think he knew it too.”

Aaron, who began using drugs at age 12, struggled with addiction throughout his life. Angel described his escalating issues in the summer of 2019, when he experienced psychotic episodes linked to his diagnoses of bipolar and schizophrenia disorders. During this period, Aaron confided disturbing thoughts and amassed several guns, prompting Angel and their older brother Nick to seek a restraining order against him, leading to the confiscation of his firearms. “I had to protect him from himself,” Angel said tearfully.

Angel attributed Aaron’s downfall to years of exploitation and misuse by those around him since he began his career at age 9. Despite her efforts, she felt unable to save him. “I couldn’t save him. It wasn’t my responsibility to save him but I tried,” she lamented. Aaron's belief that his parents' divorce was caused by his success added to his struggles, with Angel noting, “He thought that the success destroyed the family.”

Aaron Carter was found dead on November 5, 2022, at his California home, with an autopsy ruling his death accidental and influenced by multiple substances. His sister Bobbie Jean also succumbed to drug abuse a year later.
