ISLAMABAD:

A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Tuesday acquitted PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Raja Khurram Nawaz and others in a case related to vandalism during the party’s Azadi March in 2022.

The case was registered at the federal capital’s Koral police station in May that year.

Judicial Magistrate Raja Farrukh Ali Khan gave the verdict on the PTI leaders’ acquittal pleas.

PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, Asad Umar, and Ali Nawaz Awan have already been acquitted in the case.

On May 27, 2022, the Islamabad police filed separate cases against 150 people including Imran as well as other party leaders over allegations of arson and vandalism in the federal capital a day earlier.

The footage of the Safe City cameras and those from private TV news channels was included in the challans of the cases as evidence. At least 39 people were taken into custody after identification from the footage.

They were booked for violating Section 144, blocking roads, pelting police with stones as well as damaging roadside trees and official vehicles.

They were also charged with interference in official work of the police.
