Drake, once heralded as the artist of the 2010s, is enduring a challenging year in 2024.
The rapper has faced criticism from former collaborators and a high-profile feud with Kendrick Lamar, who recently handed him a significant defeat in their rap battle.
Lamar celebrated his victory with a legendary Juneteenth concert, leaving Drake to grapple with the fallout.
Adding to his woes, Drake has now suffered a substantial financial loss, betting $1 million on the Stanley Cup finals and the NBA finals.
The Florida Panthers' victory over the Edmonton Oilers on June 24 proved costly for Drake, who had placed a $500,000 bet on the Oilers.
The rapper, known for his loyalty to Canadian teams, shared the betting stub on June 6.
This was one of two significant wagers he made that day, with another $500,000 placed on the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA finals.
Both bets failed, resulting in a staggering $1 million loss in just two weeks.
The "Drake curse," a decade-old concept suggesting that Drake brings bad luck to any sports team he supports, resurfaced as fans reacted to his latest misfortune.
The X Twitter account Dallas Nation highlighted the betting stubs, claiming the curse is "alive and well."
Drake himself had previously joked about this curse during the Toronto Raptors' NBA title run in 2019, sarcastically addressing it after the Raptors advanced past the Orlando Magic.
Drake's betting habits have often been a source of humor, but Kendrick Lamar's recent diss track, "Meet the Grahams," presented a darker perspective.
Lamar accused Drake of having gambling issues, along with other personal struggles. "Thirty-seven, but you showin' up as a seven-year-old," Lamar raps.
"You got gamblin' problems, drinkin' problems, pill-poppin' and spendin' problems. Bad with money..." This latest betting loss does little to counter Lamar's claims.
