Karachi braces for scorching heat as temperatures set to hit 40°C

the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that Karachi is expected to experience severe heat on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to peak at 40°C.

The PMD forecasts temperatures between 38°C and 40°C and humidity levels around 76%. The minimum temperature may drop to 30.5°C.

Yesterday, the city experienced a "feels like" temperature of 51°C at around 2 pm.

The Chief Meteorologist at PMD Sardar Sarfaraz told a local news channel that Karachi will remain under intense heat for the next three days due to the interruption of sea breezes, increasing the heat's severity.

Health professionals advise avoiding outside food and drinks and recommend boiling water before consumption. ORS and water intake are crucial to prevent dehydration.

Residents are cautioned to stay indoors, especially between 11 am and 3 pm, to avoid direct sun exposure. Experts suggest wearing light-coloured, loose clothing and covering the head when going outside to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The PMD issued a heatwave warning, predicting extreme temperatures for various southern regions of the country.

The Met Office said that Karachi is forecasted to remain hot and humid over the next three days, with daytime temperatures anticipated to range between 38°C and 40°C.

In other regions, temperatures are expected to be even higher. Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, and Badin may see temperatures ranging from 44°C to 46°C.

Meanwhile, Jacobabad, Dadu, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, and Shaheed Benazirabad will likely experience temperatures between 46°C and 48°C.
