India or Australia: Who will reach into T20 World Cup semis if match gets washed out

Each team will receive one point if the rain disrupts play

KARACHI:

Two teams from Group 2 have already secured their places in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup Super Eight stage, while India stands in a strong position to qualify from Group One.

The competition for the remaining semi-final spot in Group One is fierce, with only one team among Australia, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan set to progress.

A pivotal match between Australia and India is scheduled for 7:30 pm today. However, weather forecasts predict a 70% chance of rain during the match, with another organisation indicating a possibility of 3.5 mm of rainfall.

If the match is washed out, both teams will receive one point. This scenario will allow India to advance to the semi-finals while eliminating Australia.

The outcome of the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh will determine the next semi-finalist based on a superior run rate. Australia’s recent defeat to Afghanistan has significantly hindered their chances of progressing.

In Group 1, all teams have played two matches each. India has won both their matches, establishing a commanding position. Australia and Afghanistan each have one win, while Bangladesh has lost both of its matches.
