Enforcement authority to impose food prices

New body to oversee demand and supply chain

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided that a Punjab Enforcement Authority will be established for the elimination of adulteration, hoarding and profiteering.

The aim of establishing the authority is to ensure the sale of edible items to the citizens at the prices fixed by the government. The authority will check the food quality and also oversee the demand and supply chain.

It will carry out checking for the eradication of adulteration and will be empowered to impose fines.

According to a statement, the authority will take measures with regard to adopting health and hygienic principles for ensuring quality of edibles during their preparation.

The Punjab Enforcement Authority will be assigned the task to ensure strict compliance with the rules across the province.

The Punjab Enforcement Authority along with the administration will take essential measures for the elimination of encroachments as well.

Chairing a meeting to review the performance of the government machinery on Eidul Azha and administrative issues in the province, the chief minister directed the officials concerned to create a sustainable mechanism to provide basic food items to the common people at affordable prices.

She advised the commissioners, deputy and assistant commissioners dedicate one day in every week to solving public problems. She directed the officials regularly visit hospitals and schools to report on various issues.

“Every district should have a permanent control room for monitoring public services as had been done on the Eid,” she added. She highlighted, “The standard of cleanliness established on the Eid must be maintained.”
