Death toll in house fire rises to seven

Inquiry indicates gas leakage caused the blaze

An eight-year-old child, a woman and a man injured in an explosion in a home in Batala Colony succumbed to their injuries in the Allied Hospital.

The number of people killed in the fire increased to seven, while the condition of two others is said to be critical.

According to initial reports, a fire had broken out as a result of an explosion in a house in Sharifpura.

Resultantly, nine people including five children had suffered burn injuries.

Of them, two children had died on the second day of Eid and two on the third day.

According to local officials, 24-year-old Makki Raza, 40-year-old Rashida Bibi and eight-year-old Rehan, son of Muhammad Raza, died in the hospital’s burns unit on Saturday.

The police reached the spot and handed over the bodies to the relatives after completing legal formalities.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formed a team headed by the deputy commissioner to look into the incident.

According to sources, the team has completed an inquiry, according to which the fire had broken out in the house due to gas leakage. An air conditioner pipe was running through the kitchen and there was a gas leakage in the kitchen, which caused the fire.

Neighbours stated that the accident had been caused because of the newly installed AC.
