Emma Stone says “you can call me whatever you want,” clears up name preference confusion
Actress Emma Stone recently revisited the topic of her preferred name in an interview, reiterating her stance amidst ongoing speculation.
Following her earlier revelation in an April interview with the Hollywood Reporter that she prefers to be called by her real name, Emily Stone, the issue has continued to attract attention.
During a press event at the Cannes Film Festival for her new film Kinds of Kindness, a reporter addressed her as Emily, prompting director Yorgos Lanthimos to correct them. Emma herself interjected, affirming, "My name is Emily. Thank you. Very nice."
In a subsequent interview, Emma reiterated her stance on the matter, emphasizing that she is comfortable with being addressed by either name.
Appearing on the Today show alongside her Kinds of Kindness co-star Jesse Plemons, Emma responded to host Craig Melvin's inquiry about her name preference. "I'm fine either way. I really am," she clarified, while acknowledging her birth name as Emily.
Explaining her choice of the stage name Emma Stone, she revealed it was adopted after discovering another actress already registered under Emily Stone with the Screen Actors Guild. "It's similar to registering a business; you can't have duplicate names," she explained.
Emma humorously added, "I've always gone by Emily... you can call me whatever you want. You can make up a name."
