Lahorites flock to canal to escape heatwave
As Lahore's temperature soared to 43 degrees Celsius, residents and their families flocked to the city’s canal to escape the blistering heat and enjoy Eid holidays.
The canal, running through the heart of Lahore, has become a hotspot for those seeking relief, despite an official ban on swimming.
Citizens of all ages were seen enjoying the cool water. Young men and children jumped from bridges into the canal, creating splashes and laughter, while women and younger children stayed near the banks, enjoying the refreshing environment.
The canal became a lively spot, filled with people trying to beat the heat in any way possible.
Families brought along food and drinks, turning their escape into a picnic. Watermelon and mango were the fruits of choice, providing a sweet and hydrating break from the intense heat.
Vendors selling swimming tubes made the most of the situation, charging Rs200 per tube for 20-25 minutes, and doing brisk business as the crowd surged. Women sat with their children on the canal banks, dipping their feet in the water to cool down.
The atmosphere was a blend of fun and relaxation, as families spent time together, enjoying the respite from the scorching temperatures.
The scene underscored the lengths to which residents were willing to go to find relief from the oppressive heat.
Despite the city's regulations, the canal offered a natural solution to beat the heat, turning an ordinary waterway into a communal sanctuary for overheated Lahorites.
