Prime Video announced on August 3, 2023, that its popular series 'The Summer I Turned Pretty,' adapted from Jenny Han's book series, has been officially renewed for a third season.

Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, expressed his satisfaction with the enthusiastic response from fans to the show which has turned Summer Fridays into a cultural sensation, according to a press release.

“This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story. We’re excited today to share the news that they have a lot more Summer to look forward to. Thank you to Jenny, Sarah Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt and our friends at wiip for their remarkable work and partnership.”

In all likelihood, the upcoming season will adapt Jenny Han's third and concluding novel in the series, "We'll Always Have Summer." This installment unfolds two years after the events depicted in "It’s Not Summer Without You," with Belly facing another dilemma regarding her feelings for the Fisher brothers. However, it's only in the third book that she ultimately reaches a resolution.

While the second season deviates from the source material in several aspects, the cast members emphasized during an interview with PEOPLE in June that the third season would probably adhere closely to the events of the third book.

"I know Jenny is really just strong on staying as true to the books as possible and hitting the main points," Gavin Casalegno told PEOPLE. Meanwhile, Tung added, "There's so many different ways you could go about it. There's a blueprint of a book, which we've been lucky to have for two seasons now, just such a solid blueprint for us, and to have Jenny on set with us has been incredible."
