A milk seller was killed during a robbery at his shop in Karachi's Qaidabad area on Monday when he resisted armed robbers, Express News reported.
The 36-year-old vendor, Baqar Ali, was killed when he resisted the robber's demands. Ali was a father of four and belonged to Patoki, a city in Kasur district of the Punjab province.
The deceased's family said he was at his shop when three armed robbers on motorcycles arrived and demanded his mobile phone and cash. When he resisted, they shot him twice, killing him instantly.
Witnesses reported that Baqar Ali had thrown a stone at the robbers as they fled, prompting them to return and shoot him.
The latest incident brings the number of people killed during robberies in Karachi this year to 75, with hundreds more injured.
On June 4 last week, a businessman was killed by motorcycle-riding assailants during a robbery attempt in Karachi’s upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) neighbourhood.
According to details, the incident took place on Street No. 12, DHA Phase II. The armed motorcyclists followed Asif Balwani, the owner of an embroidery factory, and shot him near his home.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) leader Mustafa Kamal demanded the government take measures to curb deadly street crime in the country that led to the brutal killing of a number of innocent civilians.
